Nantucket Style....Nicole Scott

I remember it well, I was new to blogging and read an article about nasty comments. I left the comment "I have never received any comments, so I can't relate". AND then, Nicole Scott came and visited my blog!

We have been friends ever since.

Linda is a very special friend. She's the first person I ever connected with when I started my blog, and vice-versa. Lucky me huh?  So, because I adore her, I jumped at the chance to guest post this month for 31 days of Nantucket.  Now, you might think that if you're having '31 days of Nantucket' on your blog it may not seem like a logical choice to wrangle your Polish Canadian pal from the west coast of British Columbia to submit a guest blog post...I mean what do I know about Nantucket right? But don't worry peeps, Linda's a genius and geared me toward my current passion which is selling Etsy Pillows. Everyone Loves Pillows Right?!

With mission in hand I first consulted a map (since I've never been), fired up the old Pinterest wheel and immediately found some inspiration from the Nantucket area. I have matched some awesome pillows from Etsy to my inspirations that I hope you will like. Check them Out!

Nantucket Style - Bethany Brower

It's Monday, and I am happy to start the week with the daughter of my friend, Nancy. I didn't want to hit Nancy up for a post, so I asked Bethany. She has more energy than her mom....Nancy would admit it.  The duo recently created this room for the One Room Challenge

Pretty, don't you think? It's actually on Apartment Therapy in the Room for Color Contest. You can click over to see more of the room and vote for it, if you like.

Hi everyone!  I'm Bethany Brower, daughter-half of Powell Brower Home.  I'm so thankful Linda asked me over to chit chat, because I love everything beachy.  Who doesn't, right?  I have a longstanding love affair with the shores of our great Northeast, so naturally, Nantucket is right up my alley.

When I think of Nantucket, I think cedar shakes, white slipcovers, Dash & Albert rugs and "As Good as it Gets".  But if I had my chance to decorate a beach home for the rich and famous, here's what I'd do.

I wanted to do a not-so literal translation where rich finishes convey the nautical feeling of a ship but with the plush comforts of home. I'd love to cuddle up and chat with friends here.

Back to reality and the increasingly chilly fall weather here in Virginia. But I so enjoyed creating a living room in Nantucket.  Hopefully our next design client has a home on the shore!  Thanks again for letting me daydream, Linda.  <---- Isn't she SO talented?

Pop on by to visit us anytime!

-Bethany

Thanks Bethany, Kiss Wilma for me!

Summer Lovin

I was almost a teenager when this came out. I went to Long Island (from California) to spend the summer with my cousins. We all went to a drive-in-movie....and watched this!

It wasn't Nantucket, but it was Jones Beach.  So this is my summer memory that I am counting for my 31 days.

By the way, the other huge hit that summer was Jaws!

Nantucket Chinoiserie Chic

Alright, how much full disclosure do I want to give you about my friend, Beth? She is probably one of the most personally private bloggers around. I have been teasing her all week that this is going to be the Chinoiserie Chic Roast. She didn't flinch one inch on my empty threat.

Our unlikely friendship started over a guest post that I did on her blog. That should have been the death of it. I was new to guest posting, and sent the entire thing over in Word. You can't access pictures in Word, and she could not upload them. I remember her words clearly, "this has never happened to me before". To make matters worse, I was already in Florida on winter break with my family and had no way of resending any of it. So while she painstakingly figured out image by image what to do....I was sitting by the pool. Miraculously, we bonded over it....after some time went by.

Fast forward, and we have become quite chatty with each other. This may surprise you because she does not openly comment on my blog, but I kid you not, she lets me know exactly what she thinks of my posts via email. In fact, I can't begin to tell you the amount of banter we have shared over this particular post. She may even discover that some of the images have been photoshopped. Of course I give her an equal amount of unsolicited advice back. I think she is learning.

We are like two teenage girls sharing the same cabin at camp. Cracking each other up, sending emails with links....no words necessary, and exchanging ideas. Just yesterday, I gave her a dare....and from what I can tell, she has not done it yet. If it were not for blogging, there is no other way we would have met. I could not get into any of the Colleges she attended. She masters the English Language, and I butcher it. The most common bond that we share is the fact that we are both mother's of daughter's whom we hope will out shine us in every possible way.

Although she has been blogging about Chinoiserie for years, the fact that the masses are now rediscovering it has me predicting that 2013 will be her most successful year. I better keep giving her advice. Beth has a heart of gold, and like gold....it just takes some digging to find it :-).

If I know her, she will not be writing her post link over until after she is able to read mine, and then she will have her full rebuttal or plausible deniability....always the former Lawyer.

Here is Nantucket Chinoiserie done by Beth from Chinoiserie Chic.

When I think of a home in Nantucket that would include elements of Chinoiserie, I see a palette of navy blue and white with pops of coral. I would incorporate lots of stripes for a nautical feel and because I love combining stripes and Chinoiserie. Blue and white Chinese porcelain, sisal rugs, and Chinese Chippendale designs would all be musts.

Let's Start Tying it Up

I love all things tactile. I am drawn to textures, surfaces, gloss, shine...anything that has a feel to it. Natural fibers are my favorite....cotton, jute, silk, and wool to be more specific. I thought these were creative ways to bring some texture into a beach house without going overboard {yeah, I said it}.
