Friday's In the Garden....Some Exciting News

Hi Everyone, before I show you what has been going on in my garden, I want to share some exciting news with you. I have been invited to join the Lowe's Creative Ideas garden blogging group. For the next six months, I will be participating in garden blogging challenges sponsored by Lowe's!

I know, it's crazy fun...right? Hopefully, my posts will inspire you to tackle some of these projects in your yard. WAIT... there's more, not only are they sponsoring my post...there will be a couple of opportunities for YOU to win a Lowe's gift card!

I'll tell you more about it as it goes along, but for now, be sure to subscribe to the Lowe's Creative Ideas Magazine OR  just get the app.

Now let me show you what has been going on in my garden. My Sum & Substance hosta is recovering nicely after I sprayed it to keep the deer away (see sad leaves on the bottom).

From this angle, you can't notice it at all

Along the driveway, the yellow Happy Returns Daylily is starting to bloom

This will bloom all summer

Finally, my favorite hydrangea....Endless Summer

This is why I love it so much....just look at all the color variations

Remember to take advantage before a good rain, and apply Holly Tone, your plants will thank you. What is blooming in your garden? If you have a link, I would love to tour it!

Friday's In the Garden....I'll Get You, My Pretty

Hi Everyone, Yeah...it's Friday, and I can't wait for the weekend. The weather is finally spectacular. It has been in the high 70's with NO humidity. This picture, that I use every week, is from last year

Those are stunning Electric Blanket ground cover roses....only the deer ate the blooms.

Who me? It could have been the rabbits

BUT...this year, I have been spraying my garden with this

...and my roses look like this

A better view

It is a miracle....actually, this is a miracle...this clematis has not bloomed in 2, maybe 3, years

Anyone know the name? Here are some of my white Flower Carpet roses

I need some plant recommendations for this area. The azalea's are not happy, and need to be moved

Something on the low side, full sun, an evergreen would be a plus

My Caradona salvia is super happy....and so is the big weed

...but from this angle, only you know it is there

Enjoy your weekend, Friends....these are not my friends.

Friday's In the Garden...Not Mine

Hi Everyone! As of yesterday...it was still raining. This week was a total washout for my own garden.

I have been planning and working on an area of my yard that has a lot of shade (less than 3 hours of sun). This is the perfect area for a shade garden. Since most shade gardens get their color from interesting plant and leaf combinations, arrangement is key. Here are some images that inspire me

Friday's In the Garden....Contain Yourself

Hello everyone, and welcome back. This week I managed to get some of my containers planted.

I spent Mother's Day in my garden. It is exactly where I wanted to be. My family was great...they washed my car (seems like an annual event), got my favorite breakfast sandwich, and some lovely cards along with a few gifts. The day ended with sushi! It was perfect. Here are some of my container choices this season

In the black self-watering container, I transplanted some Lambs Ear

For this small container...just a few different coleus

Again, I put in Lambs ear (it will perk up soon). I also transplanted a blue hosta and more coleus

For the window boxes...every year I can't decide (remember the waffle)

I went with a purple striped wave petunia and some chartreuse potato vines. I also mixed in a blue columnar juniper flanked by variegated boxwood's. Those three will live over the winter, so next year should be easier (who am I kidding?).

I only bought a hanging arrangement once...maybe twice...and each year I replant the basket with the colors of my current season. I have more to plant, so I am off. What are you doing in your containers?

If you love window boxes, you may enjoy some of my window box posts here.

Friday's in the Garden...Garden Tours

Hi Everyone...yeah, I'm leaving my hood and going on some garden tours (virtually of course).

I was in full garden stalker mode this week, and I stumbled across some lovely home gardens. Here are just a few that more than caught my eye....

Friday's In the Garden....Rain Delay

Hi Everyone....It is late on Friday...but it's still Friday. This was a wet week in New Jersey. It's hard to complain, we need it!

It is a great time...Spring is in full bloom. If you want to add some color to your garden, you need to go to the garden center at the time you want the plant to be in bloom....and then, buy what is blooming. Here are a few plants that look fantastic now

White Irises

Golden Barberry

Dwarf Blue Spruce against Purple Barberry

Bearded Iris

Remember the Lambs Ear I wrote about here

It didn't take long for it to fill out. Next week, I will be working on my shade garden...

If you look closer, you can see that it needs a good weeding. These tall weeds need to be pulled, and the newspaper/mulch method won't work on them. It could also benefit from some rearranging.

Lastly, my friend stopped by and gave me this

Thanks Whit! Have you started working outside?
