One Room Challenge™, Spring 2015, Week 6
Hello, and welcome back to the final week of the Spring 2015 One Room Challenge™. Four years ago, I had this crazy idea, and today I am thrilled to share that there have been over 500 room transformations as a result of this event. The excitement and enthusiasm that surrounds this event is fantastic. Now let's go see the finished rooms.
I can't stand the suspense....

House Update
Happy May! By now, everyone should be having spectacular weather. May is a great time to be in Naples. All of the snowbirds are heading home, traffic is light, and you don't need restaurant reservations on a Saturday night.
Things are moving very slowly on my home renovation project. I need to have our window replacement plan approved by an engineer before we can move forward. Florida has a law about replacing more than 25% of your windows....don't quote me...but they need to have impact resistant glass, or hurricane shutters installed over them. I will be installing impact resistant glass windows. I weighted the convenience of not having to apply the shutters ever time there was a need with the fact that nobody in this house would actually do it. Decision made.
Another decision that needs to be made is the wall tile combination for the kids bathroom. I can't decide between beveled subway or flat subway?
Thoughts?
I think this will be my new (to me) kitchen/dining table. I found it in Palm Beach and am smitten with it.
I need permission from the homeowners' association that resides over the furniture in this soon-to-be renovated party room. I hope they say yes.
I'm off to hunt for countertops. I think I'm leaning toward quartzite. Of course that's subject to change like everything else around here.
One Room Challenge™ Linking Event, Spring 2015, Week 5
Welcome back to week five of the One Room Challenge™. This is where everyone taking the challenge will be linking up and sharing their progress. If you are taking the challenge, please take a moment to read this:
I know how hard you have worked on your room. The best advice I can give you, is to find a way to have great pictures. Great pictures make an average space look good, and a great space look amazing. If you can't take great photos, find a friend....or teenager with an iPhone.

House Update | Port Royal View | A Giveaway
I must admit, I am pretty envious of all the progress everyone is making on their ORC rooms. I wish I could say the same speed was happening over at my house. Progress is slooooooowly coming along. Each step requires inspections, and that takes time. Thankfully, framing is done.
This is the former dining area that is now the laundry room (far) and powder room.
Laundry on the right, powder room on the left. Eight foot doors....note to self, pick a door style soon.
Those windows are being replaced and resized.....more permits, more engineering.
In the next few days, I must commit and order a floor tile. This has been the greatest challenge, and is a long story. Once I finally order one, I'll tell you all about it. Here's a hint; I won't be ordering it from the very popular tile store in Naples, that everyone goes to. The one that I have visited four different times. Each time, nobody ever asked me if I needed help. They couldn't be bothered. I had to laugh, it reminded me of this scene....
Moving on.....Saturday, was my daughter's Junior Prom. Boy, have proms changed since the eighteen hundreds, when I last attended one. The highlight of my evening was the pre-prom photo party. It was at a beautiful home in Port Royal. If you are not familiar with Port Royal, it is one of the most exclusive areas in Naples where most of the homes are on the water.
Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. 'A' for hosting such a lovely event. They thought of everything....and by everything, I mean they were smart enough not to start the gourmet appetizer tray passes until the kids were on their way to the prom. I had a great time seeing some familiar faces (that doesn't happen very often) and meeting so many new people. Once high school starts, you rarely get a chance to meet the other parents.
I did manage to grab a few shots of the view. Isn't this pretty.
A moving debut novel about two mothers—one biological and one adoptive—from a compelling new voice in Southern women’s fiction.
One baby girl.
Two strong Southern women.
And the most difficult decision they’ll ever make.
Frances “Khaki” Mason has it all: a thriving interior design career, a loving husband and son, homes in North Carolina and Manhattan—everything except the second child she has always wanted. Jodi, her husband’s nineteen-year-old cousin, is fresh out of rehab, pregnant, and alone. Although the two women couldn’t seem more different, they forge a lifelong connection as Khaki reaches out to Jodi, encouraging her to have her baby. But as Jodi struggles to be the mother she knows her daughter deserves, she will ask Khaki the ultimate favor…
It sounds good, doesn't it? I was adopted, so I'm really looking forward to sitting down and reading this. If you would like to win a copy, just leave a comment. Please make sure I have your email address. I'll pick a winner on Sunday.
