Minty Malm...Ikea Hack

I think I have early dementia. I just can't remember anything, lately. For now, I'll chalk it up to the end of summer, back to school, and my husband. Let's face it...some how...it's always going to be his fault. No worries, he let's me think that...and among other things, THAT is why I love him!

When I was in the middle of the One Room Challenge, I promised some Ikea hack break-downs. Here is one of a few (told you, I can't remember anything).

It has a bit of a twist to it....
Start with
Here comes the twist...I hate those toe kicks, and can't figure out why Ikea uses them. Must be a Swedish thing...skulle inte du med?

Let's get rid of it...shall we? Cut a piece of 1 x 3 to length

Glue it so it is flush with the Malm frame

Sand, prime, sand, paint....sand and paint again...I did a third coat for just the top

All in high gloss

Using these O'verlays....and gold spray paint, glue them in place

Let them dry completely

I wanted to use this hardware, so I knew my hole placement was 3" on center

Because drilling holes into a perfectly painted piece is enough pressure to give you heart palpitations...I made a template

After spending what felt like hours of deliberation....I marked the template for the hole placement

Add the hardware, put the drawers back and try to style your Minty Malm

To see the entire bedroom with two minty malms...go here. I have a few more hacks coming, so stay tuned. Are you working on anything fun or exciting?

One Room Challenge...Week Four

Hi Friends! Thanks for coming back and checking in on my progress for the One Room Challenge. If this is your first time on my blog you can start the challenge here. Before I get into the details of the week, I want to thank Emily Clark for featuring the ORC ladies here, and here. Your hospitality was appreciated.

Are you wondering who showed up this week? Me too!

Vinny my painter came! I love Vinny, he is my first choice in painting. He painted my dining room ceiling

He came with two other guys, and the three of them really knocked it out. Before I show it to you , I must tell you that Vinny is not a huge fan of the plank ceiling treatment. He kept saying..."It's a look". I realize that this is not the most popular choice for New Jersey, but in my mind....I live at the beach.

Here is my high gloss plank ceiling

Another view

When he was done, I told him it was so beautiful I could cry. Vinny looked scared. He didn't exactly understand that reaction....buy you do! He also did not understand what a blog was. As you can see, the walls were rolled by said painter, too. Once I have a competent person at my home, I don't want them to leave. Are you like that?

As long as you are looking at my uneven windows....what say you for window treatment?  That bookcase on the left is being moved downstairs, BTW.

As for the built-ins...let's just say I'm still hacking away

The cardboard backs bothered me so much that I added a layer of luan wood. Yes, I will be painting them...still deciding on that, too. I realize there are only two more weeks, so now might be the time to come to terms with what won't be getting finished. Eh, I'll worry about it next week.

As for the trimming out on the built-ins

I added a crown and a chair rail.

This corner took a long time, but I love it and now stare at it....a lot

I love the way it turns the corner. Do you stop during a project to admire you own work? The work that nobody else in the family will notice. The work that makes you feel like you do more than just laundry and cooking.

Moving on, after my dresser disaster, I put these two rejects potential projects out at the curb.

I always put my decent stuff out a day before bulky trash because I want it to be picked up and recycled. I am happy to report that within an hour, a local landscapers' crew picked them up! Look for them on another blog real soon.

Hola chicos, me encantaría ver lo que haces con las piezas ... me envíen una foto.

As for me, 2 Malm dressers from Ikea will do just fine.

If the humidity ever decreases, I will finish painting them the perfect shad of mint

BM 568 Parkside Dunes
I wish I had more finished things to show you. I do have a Lowe's Gift Card Giveaway going on, if you are feeling lucky?

I'm off to visit the others....just as soon as I get this Lyme Disease carrying creature out of my yard

Now let's go see if the other rooms are at the "fluffing" stage
