My Inspiration Entry

It's a balmy 44 degrees here in New Jersey. I'm outta here....come see me at Laura's blog, Gracefully Searching.

I'm telling you all my inspiration secrets I used for creating my new entry.

While you are on her blog, make sure you poke around. Laura is the one who creates some of the best design boards out there. Remember when she did a tutorial for us?

Yeah, that Laura!

One Room Challenge..the Finale

Hello, and thanks for coming by. This is the final post for this round of the One Room Challenge. You can start at the beginning of the challenge, here.

I want to thank you for coming by each week and leaving your supportive comments. I really appreciate all of your feedback. You don't know it, but you kept me going. I tried to reply back to everyone who was not a "no-reply" blogger. If you wrote about the challenge or read anything about it, I would love it if you sent me the link. I would like to link back to all of those people.

Enough writing, let's get to the pictures.

Remember how it started?

A colorful Turkish rug (post with sources to follow)

 Love this detail.

I went shopping online at The Pink Pagoda for the blue and white ginger jars and the planter. They were delivered in less than a week.

The chandelier is up. I love the round bulbs with the rectangular glass.

The ceilings feel much taller with the simple columns and crown.

Yes, a Craigslist mirror and console table.

Mirror details.

I love the coral pagoda.

And a pop of coral on the inside.

The marble top that I was telling you about.

The paint is BM Ebony King. It is Porch & Floor paint in oil.

My favorite part, this section.

Love the rug.

The lamps after a little bit of spray paint.

The breathtaking fabric designed by Jennifer.

One more rug.

It goes really well with the San Francisco prints.

She wanted to come home with me.

He was not impressed.

I'm off to go see the others and after that I will be spending so much quality time with my kids, they will be begging me to go start another project.

One Room Challenge...Week 4

Hello, and thanks for coming back and checking in on my progress with my entry. This is week 4 of the One Room Challenge. In case you are new, this is where you can start the beginning of this challenge

I am not going to lie...I worked like a dog over the last week. I really wanted to have something more to show you than millwork issues. I think I finally turned the corner, figuratively and literally.

Here is the finished millwork with primer on some of it.

Let me show you how I got here.

This one's for you DAP people....who follow me on Pinterest. For the record, I have not received anything from DAP....but totally would if they sent me some!

I really like the High Performance one on the right for all the joints where the boards meet. The one on the left (the pink kind) is great for small holes.

Once all the holes and joints are filled
(does this remind anyone else of the book Put Me In The Zoo?)

I used a sponge sander to smooth out the joints

Check the smoothness with your hand when you are done. Remember, if you can feel it, you will see it when it's painted.

A coat of primer, and I am almost ready to call my painter for the finished coats.

I thought I would be done priming by the time Seth started his monologue at the Oscars....that didn't happen. In fact, I am finishing it as you read this.

Moving on... remember that Vintage Regency piece I showed you? Well, I asked Joe and Mike to look it over and see if it was real Burl wood. These are two dudes who hate the thought of paining wood. Not only is it NOT real Burl wood, they went on to tell me how they thought it was poorly made.

This would not be the time to explain to them how expensive the marble top would be if I tried to buy just that. I also had no guilt over painting it....so here is a sneak peak at the color selected.

It needs another coat, or two.

Craigslist was good to me, again...I picked up a pair of stools, that need a makeover.

And, finally...I ran to Target and picked up a matching pair of lamps. Can you guess which style I selected?

Which one would you pick?

Now if the weather would cooperate, and give me a few spray painting days...I would really be grateful.

Let's go see how the others made out this week.

Opinions Please

You may remember that I was looking for a vintage Regency piece for my ORC entry?

Well, here she is. I found it on Craigslist...of course. There is a carrera marble top for it that I moved to a safe location. This is where I need your help. I am not sure what color to paint it.

Since the walls will be white, or close to it.....I have an almost unlimited palette to chose from. So I need your help.

Here are some colors that caught my eye.

As you can see, I'm all over the place.
Do any of these colors speak to you? Any other suggestions?

The Finale

A special thank you to Jennifer @ The Pink Pagoda. She color coordinated all of the buttons on our sidebar's. She also created this amazing banner. She is one talented graphic designer.

Here are the fabulous blogs participating:

What am I working on?
Well, for the first ORC I made over my dining room. The next ORC, I tackled my master bedroom

So, it seemed only fair to ask my family what room they wanted. Here's the vote:

Husband (aka, my sponsor) - Garage
Son - His Room
Daughter - Her Room

It was unanimous...the Entry Hall!

Welcome to my entry
There are 3 parts to it. This is the view from the front door. I'm calling this section 1.

This is the opposing view of section 1.

This is the part I am calling section 2

It is between section 1 and the kitchen. It is also where the coat closet and powder room are located.

And now for section 3. The most neglected area.

Another view of section 3

It connects the entry to the family room....and nobody ever goes down section 3!

As some of you know, I have been obsessing over an all white foyer with a splash of color for over a year.

This is my inspiration
Oak Hill Architects
I want to add recessed panels exactly like these.

A colorful rug, or two, or three

via Red Magazine
I would love a piece of furniture to replace the chest of drawers in section 1. Maybe something like this one
Apartment Therapy
I think I will paint the alter table I got on CL like this one and put it in section 3.

Celerie Kemble
I will need a mirror to go over it...maybe something like this one

That's my plan....now let's go see what the others are planning for their rooms;

All White Foyer

A beach house needs an all white foyer. Nothing says clean, fresh, and summer quite like this

AD

This is my idea of  a Nantucket Style entry. For all of my other Nantucket Style post, you can go here.

It's the white paneling with a few drops of color sprinkled in.

I want one. Could you live with this much white?
